Leading occupational physiotherapy provider, Physio Med, is setting an example to clients by encouraging its staff to go sugar-free for the whole of November, and simultaneously undertake a mammoth cycling challenge.
Employees at Physio Med’s head office in Leeds have locked away the biscuits, chocolate and sugary snacks until December as they strive to promote healthy eating.
The team is also attempting a virtual bike ride from Lapland to the North Pole as part of the well-being event. During each available break and lunchtime, and using the exercise bikes in the company’s on-site gym, 21 Physio Med team members are embarking on the energy-sapping, 1,500 mile journey.
Nicola Wood, office manager and event organiser, said: “Several of us in the office have a finely-tuned sweet-tooth and have been discussing a sugar-free challenge for some time now, and the month before Christmas seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a go.
“I decided that coupling this with a bike ride was the best way to really challenge us all, so we picked the distance from Lapland to the North Pole as the target for us to cycle and then encouraged everybody in the office to take part. It will hopefully give us all an healthy energy boost and we think it sends a positive message out to all our clients who we encourage to adopt healthier lifestyles.”
On the progress so far, Nicola added: “It’s still early days but we’re currently on track to reach the North Pole in time for Christmas!”
