With our useful safety tips, you don't have to let the sun go down on your training.
Cyclists
You must have lights
By law, you must have a permanent front white light and a continuous red flashing rear light. Of course, there are many types of bike lights on the market.
You want to buy lights that give you a good range of view; so that you can see forthcoming obstacles such as potholes. Batteries only last so long, therefore is advisable to have an additional pair of cycle lights, so that you do not get caught out!

Keep your arms visible
Cyclists also need to indicate at junctions and roundabouts. Wear a high vis jacket or bright reflective clothing to be noticed.
Check your bike before going out
Repairing a puncture or a mechanical issue can be a nightmare at the best of times. Make things easier by checking your bike before going out.
Runners
Run on the right-hand side of the road
By facing ongoing traffic, you have a much better chance of being seen. It's easier to jump out of the way of an oncoming vehicle.
Maximise your senses by leaving your music at home
Although music is great for motivation for runners, this can be dangerous. You need to be extra cautious and keep your wits about you.
It is important to note that cycling with headphones is dangerous regardless of the weather conditions. In the UK, it is legal to cycle with headphones. However, we strongly advise people not to cycle while listening to music.
Runners and Cyclists
It is crucial that you help yourselves and other road users by staying visible. Make sure that you remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
If you're not keen on running/cycling in the dark, there are other options to stay fit including joining your local gym or attending fitness classes.
Remember to be seen and stay safe.
